The Department of Paediatrics and Child Health within the School of Medical Sciences, University of Cape Coast is based at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital- the principal teaching hospital of the University.
As a department we share in the vision of the school and University at large to be a centre of excellence for innovative research. This is evident in our ever enlarging local and international collaborative partner network, including the University of Baltimore, Maryland.
Teaching is at the core of our Department’s focus. We are responsible for delivering a paediatrics and children’s health curriculum for the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery programme. Taken at the 4th and 5th years, students have the opportunity to be tutored in the essentials of neonatology and paediatrics by a young motivated faculty of specialist paediatricians at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital.
We actively support students and practitioners/clinicians wanting to undertake research in paediatrics and have fantastic opportunities for paediatricians interested in an academic career. Current research in the department are in the areas of preterm feeding and neonatal bilirubin encephalopathy.
