The Department of Medical Imaging is an academic department of School of Medical Sciences which has a vision of becoming a leading provider of diagnostic medical imaging services in the Central Region and Ghana in general. Our mission is to be a centre of excellence that attracts and educates students to discover, create and apply knowledge in diagnostic medical imaging to serve the whole nation.
The Department has completed the accreditation process for the introduction of Two new Academic programmes namely; BSc. in Diagnostic Imaging Technology (Radiography) and BSc. in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (Sonography). The Department contributes significantly to teaching, as well as preparing and enriching all the contents of Medical Imaging in the various module guides for levels 300,400,500 and 600 in the School of Medical Sciences.
The Department still has two (2) full – time lecturers who teach the various Imaging components in all Modules. Efforts are still being made to recruit more lectures. The Department is currently playing a key role within the School of Allied Health Sciences (SAHS), a number of organization/institutions (national/international) for academic or other forms of support.
Ongoing research activities include awareness of non-accidental injuries in children (child abuse) among health workers and teachers, application of Forensic Radiology in the diagnosis of child abuse and organ doses and optimization of doze to staff and patients involved in interventional procedures using Voxel phantom.
